Hanging: Is there now a right time to ban the practice world-over

stop death penaltyOne hanging in India on 30th of July’15 and country felt the tremors of its intellectual divide which was never seen in the history before. It all started when the mercy plea of Yakub Memon, a convict of Mumbai serial blast of 1993 was rejected by one and all even when many intellectuals supported the cause and then came the high drama that followed thereafter.

Whatever happened there is now in history pages but one thing is sure that the incident has divided people en-block this time more first on the lines of religion then on their political affiliations and much more than anything is on the humanity aspect of the incident.

This hanging has once again brought to the forefront the very debate on the discontinuing with the practice of hanging itself in its first place due to its inhumane angle. One can see following facts:

1. Almighty has given the life and as humane being we cannot empower ourselves with the right to kill one. The thought process of hanging one itself may look like a terror and act of revenge.

2. No religion preaches to be cruel in your approach towards humanity.

3. Generally poor get the gallows and rich mostly get away.

4. Tolerant and patient countries have generally bloomed whereas intolerant communities world-over have called acts of revenge in the vicinity.

5. All in all if one goes with the very thought of hanging in the name of justice, it may not hold good in the court of God.

Seeing all the complexities involved in hanging, many countries have already banned the practice of hanging. At the same time this time may be most opportune for bringing peace order in the world by going away with the practice of hanging from the remaining part of the world.
