This the consequence of a few things:
1. AI models need data on human written text
2. A lot of books sitting and gathering dust because no one wants them
3. Copyright law being against creating copies of an item (so you can’t copy your video game file and share with a friend) but allowing “transformation” of a single copy by digitising it and then destroying the physical.
