Monsoon Mumbai 2015: Southwest Monsoon prediction this time for the Indian subcontinent in May 2015 was quite unfavorable and many forecasters including ever trusted IMD of India predicted for a likely drought year. What prompted the govt machinery to work overnight to deal with the emerging situation but all hell broke when the city of Mumbai was caught unaware in its preparedness for onset of the monsoon and the city got flooded at many places during the first spell of the monsoon itself.
A little delayed Monsoon that struck Mumbai on 14th of Jun,2015 advanced then at full force and the heavy rainfall in the month of June till 21st was of the order of around 1000 mm which is more than 4 time the average rainfall during the period. What to say now for further monsoon traverse is anybody’s guess as these annual rituals of weather forecasting itself looks more like a guessing game now.

For the time being city of Mumbai is grappling with the problem of heavy deluge where residents are seeing frequent breakdown of city’s major infrastructures like train services, road networks and power failures. And what if any new cyclonic formation in the Arabian sea makes things further worse for this island city where flooding has become a phenomenon nowadays can well be understood by one and all.
